Audition Technique

Let's chat about audition technique for a minute. Auditioning can be stressful and overwhelming, but after enough practice and hard-work it becomes a little bit easier. There are lots of things you can do to prepare before the audition. Having an updated picture and resume is extremely important (especially on LA Casting and Actors Access). Not all casting directors require a headshot and resume at the audition, but you should always be ready with one (especially at the callback). Learning what to wear can be extremely helpful. You want to know your client and dress appropriately for both commercial and theatrical. If you are going in to read for Good Luck Charlie, watch the show and see what they are wearing - bright colors? more earthy colors? Also know the storyline - be familiar with the show - who are the characters? what is the vibe? If you are going in for a commercial, wear something that makes you stand out. I would stay away from blue and green since those are the background colors at most casting facilities. Memorize, memorize, memorize!! The more familiar you are with the copy, the more you can play in the room. If you are holding the paper or do not know your copy, you are more likely to mess up or loose your place. These are just a few tips. Stay tuned for more!!
